Kenya, the “home of African Safari”, the “Land of Athletics Champions”, “Gateway to East Africa” & “Only Country with a full-fledged national park within a city’s limits’, lies on the eastern side of the African Continent. It is a home of contrasts with a sample of almost the whole world’s climatic and landform zones in one pot; desert experience on the northern side (e.g. Samburu National Reserve), savannah stretching all over the southern side (e.g. Masai Mara Game Reserve & Amboseli National Park), alpine on the central parts with snow & glacier atop the majestic Mt. Kenya – 5,199M high, the panoramic Great Rift Valley and escarpments, volcanic lava flows, landforms and plateaus (e.g. the grand Tsavo National Parks) and superfine beaches on the eastern side, stretching from Tanzania border at the south to Somali border to the north. The equator splits the country into almost 2 equal halves (quite interesting to visit and finally try and prove the truth on the “Coriolis Effect”). Lake Victoria, the 2nd largest fresh-water lake in the world & an attraction in itself finds a home here, connecting Kenya to Uganda and Tanzania.
This unique destination has the best on offer in terms of wildlife in their natural habitats; all the Big-Five Game in Masai Mara, the Special-Five in Samburu, and over 73 types of antelopes beside the myriad game such as the big cats, dogs, hyenas, zebra and giraffes to name but a few, talk about the abounding prolific birdlife all over. Need we say that we are the proud owners of the “annual wildebeest migration”, a phenomenon that has slotted Masai Mara Game Reserve to be rated as the latest 8th Wonder of the World, a high-adrenaline event where the gnu compete for river-space with the hippo while providing the crocodile’s dietary needs with a constant flow of food.
The Kenyan lovely population currently stands at over 45 million; a melting pot of over 44 tribes speaking different dialects but all unified in English and Swahili Languages, a people whose hospitality goes unsurpassed, a people which has offered this earth the world’s greatest champions in athletics. Some of the tribes here have managed to retain their traditional and cultural ways of life while blending intricately but smoothly into the fast-paced modern life; talk about the Maasai to the southern parts of the country, Samburu to the north-east, Turkana on the north-west, et al.
