Day 1: Nairobi to Lake Nakuru - Kenya
This Masai Mara & Lake Nakuru Budget Safari departs from Nairobi in the morning, travelling north via the Great Rift Valley. We pass through beautiful scenery of viewpoints & farms in the Rift Valley, as we make our way to Lake Nakuru National Park. Arrival is in time for check-in and lunch.
After lunch, we embark on an afternoon game viewing drive in Lake Nakuru Park, in search of the sanctuary’s diverse wildlife and birds.
This Great Rift Valley lake attracts over 450 different bird species, including many water birds. The many birding species in this haven includes species such as the great white pelican, African spoonbill, yellow-billed stork, lesser and greater flamingo, and long-crested eagle among others. As an important wildlife sanctuary, the Lake Nakuru National Park plays host to some of Africa’s highly endangered species, especially black & white rhinos, the elusive lone leopard and the rare white-shanked Rothschild’s giraffe among others. The park is also home to lions, waterbuck, buffalo, baboons and reptiles in their natural habitats; sourcing for them is the joy of our game drive. “Need we say that this park was declared a Ramsar Site”
Dinner and relaxation after a fulfilling day is served from our comfortable lodge inside the park.
Day 2: Lake Nakuru to Masai Mara - Kenya
Day two of our adventure starts with breakfast at our lodge beside the lake. We then check out and depart to our next game viewing destination in Kenya, the world-famous Masai Mara Game Reserve.
The exciting travel via the floor of the scenic Great Rift Valley takes us right up to our Masai Mara destination arriving in time for check in and lunch at your safari camp in the reserve. Later in the afternoon do we venture onto a thrilling game drive in the reserve that runs till sunset.
Later in the evening, we return to your luxury tented camp for dinner and relaxation.
Day 3 & 4: Masai Mara Game Reserve - Kenya
The next two days are set aside for game viewing in this Kenya’s (and indeed Africa’s) finest wildlife sanctuary, the Masai Mara National Reserve.
Our morning and afternoon game drives take us in search of Africa’s Big Five and the plethora of other wildlife inhabiting this vast Kenyan game reserve. On clear days, the Mara offers fantastic orange-tinged sunsets with shots of acacia silhouetted skies that make for spectacular photos.
The Mara Reserve covers 1510km² of incredible wide-open landscapes and fertile riverine woodlands, following the looping meanders of the Mara and Talek rivers in southwest Kenya. One glimpse is enough to explain its appeal; it is typical open savannah, with a mass of amazing wildlife.
Wherever you go in the vast Masai Mara Park you will see a frequent amount of wildlife such as Masai giraffe, baboons, warthogs, bat eared foxes, grey jackals, spotted hyena, topis, impala, hartebeests, wildebeest. Elephants, buffalos, zebras and hippos are also found in great numbers. It is also common to see lions either basking after a heavy meal or surveying the plains for their next meal. Cheetahs and leopards are harder to spot but reasonably common.
The ultimate action here is without a doubt the annual wildebeest exodus, the Great Migration, in July and August to October when millions of these grazers move north from the Serengeti in search of lusher grass before turning south again in October. As they move, they attract predators, zebra and other herbivores
Hot-air balloon trips are an entirely outstanding way of seeing the savannah plains teeming with wildlife. These Masai Mara balloon trips can be arranged at extra costs upon request.
Evening relaxation on both nights is at your luxury tented safari camp in the Masai Mara.
Day 5: Masai Mara to Nairobi - Kenya
We head off into the bush on an early morning game drive in Masai Mara Reserve, before returning back to your camp for breakfast and check out.
Our final drive takes us past the town of Narok and back to the bustling city of Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, arriving in the afternoon. This arrival marks the end of your fulfilling Kenyan 5 Days Mara & Nakuru Safari.
